Somatic Experiencing® International (SEI) is a nonprofit organization based in Boulder, Colorado, dedicated to spreading the healing work of Somatic Experiencing — a body-based method developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine over more than four decades. SEI trains therapists, social workers, coaches, medical providers, and other helping professionals to work with the nervous system roots of trauma, teaching them to recognize when someone is stuck in fight, flight, or freeze — and how to help them find their way out.
The SE approach doesn't treat trauma as a purely psychological event. It works from the body up, helping people gently release survival energy that got trapped before it could complete. Practitioners learn to track physical sensations, slow things down, and build tolerance for what's been too overwhelming to feel — gradually restoring the nervous system's natural capacity for resilience.
SEI currently provides training in 40 countries through direct programs and affiliate relationships, bringing SE into mental health, medicine, education, bodywork, and addiction treatment. For anyone living with PTSD, developmental trauma, chronic stress, or the effects of abuse or loss, finding an SEI-trained practitioner means working with someone who has been trained to follow the body's own intelligence toward healing.
