Helena Vissing is a licensed psychologist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner based in San Francisco, focusing on perinatal mental health — the emotional terrain of pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. Her work blends somatic approaches with psychodynamic and trauma-responsive frameworks, helping mothers move through the profound identity shift of matrescence with more groundedness and care.
She is the author of *Somatic Maternal Healing: Psychodynamic and Somatic Trauma Treatment for Perinatal Mental Health* (Routledge, 2024), a clinical resource written for practitioners in the field. Much of her work centers on nervous system coregulation and making trauma-responsive care practical and embodied — both for clients and for the clinicians who work with them.
Helena also offers continuing education trainings for mental health providers through the Nurturing Mamas Network, training therapists and other perinatal professionals to bring somatic tools into their practices. Her work draws on feminist psychoanalysis, body psychotherapy, and somatic neuroscience. She has been a featured speaker at Postpartum Support International, the USABP conference, and the William Alanson White Institute.
